More Fall updates!

Fall truly has arrived...and we couldn't be happier!  Whidbey Island is absolutely LOVELY this time of year, and there are many events happening over the next few months to make Langley an ideal fall destination.  Be sure to follow the Langley Main Street Association's facebook page to see everything coming up!  And look for a Langley feature in November's Sunset magazine if you need more convincing.

enjoying the cassoulet last year, Joel especially so...
We are very excited about our new menu rolling out next week...look for old favorites such as raclette, french onion soup, ouefs en meurette, and tarte flambe.  And new items for us such as lobster bisque, duck gizzards, wild boar ragout, coquilles st. jacques and a few other surprises.  Our plats du jour will be changing, most notable, cassoulet will be served every Thursday night!  We are thrilled to announce that we are now baking our own sandwich bread in house and will be changing the preparations of some of our favorite standard sandwiches.  For example, the croque monsieur will become a more fork and knife, drenched in bechamel croque with ham cured in house.  Add a fried egg to that for a croque madame and...instant hangover cure!
Additionally all our pastas and ice creams will now be made in house as we've brought on a pastry cook/baker, so that also means a growing pastry program.

We are again in the running for King 5's Best of the Northwest in the best outdoor dining category...we would LOVE to get your vote.  We are currently ranked 4th behind Salty's and Ray's, and with only a few days left of voting, we are hoping to sneak into a higher ranking. Thanks so much for the support!  http://best.king5.com/prima-bistro/biz/177355

BORDEAUX WINE DINNER - on November 9th we will be offering a 6 course, wine paired dinner featuring wines from the Bordeaux region of France.  Seatings are staggered between 5:30-8:00 and the cost is $85/person.  Please call 360 221 4060 or email primabistro@whidbey.com soon to secure your spot, we anticipate selling out quickly.

Here's a little blurb about Bordeaux and the dinner from Sieb: "Situated on the western coast of central France, surrounding the massive Gironde Estuary and the Garonne and Dordogne rivers that flow into it, Bordeaux is the wine capital of the world. Every year, over 700 million bottles of Bordeaux are produced, ranging from everyday table wine to the most expensive wine the world offers. It is also home to some of the wine world’s most famous estates: Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Haut Brion, Mouton Rothschild, Margaux, Petrus, Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Yquem, to name a few.  With its Atlantic ocean coastline fish and shellfish abound, but Bordeaux is carnivore country and its most celebrated dish is entrecĂ´te marchand de vin, also called entrecote a la bordelaise, a world known dish of rib steak cooked in a rich gravy made from Bordeaux wine, butter, shallots, herbs and bone marrow (this may or may not be on the menu for this dinner). The wines range from sparkling cremants, to sauvignon blanc and Semillon based whites which range from crisp and simple to more viscous and complex. The reds range from merlot based right bank wines to more cabernet driven left bank wines. And finally one of the great sweet wines of the world, sauternes. I will be tasting through many of these wines, taking extensive tasting notes and building a six course menu with dishes that will intertwine with the flavors and spirit of the wines."

Fall Newsletter

Well, we did it!  We made it through another busy summer season, mostly unscathed!  We cannot believe how many people walked through our doors in July and August (20,325 to be precise), and sold a lot of burgers (2,762 to be precise).  It was the summer of broken things...our fish fryer went kaput so we had no fish and chips, calamari, or fried oysters for 3 weeks as the new one was on it's way.  Our deck heaters all decided to be on the fritz within days of each other (luckily it was a hot summer!), the walk in refrigerator had problems off and on, and countless other little issues...and yet somehow we managed to stay in good spirits (for the most part) and we are all still standing!   A special thanks to our locals who endure these few months with us, who are patient when there might be a 1.5 hour wait, who cheer us on and who rejoice when they get their restaurant back in September.  Thank you!  And no thank you is big enough to our amazing crew...seriously relentless shifts that they handled with grace!

Onto what's coming up:
We're wrapping up Washington Cider Week this weekend.  We are offering a cider menu with 3 ciders on draft and 6 by the bottle, featuring Snowdrift ciders.  Snowdrift is a family run cidery in Wenatchee, and one of the owners lives right here in Langley. If you make it in be sure to order their summer red on draft...it's out of this world!
Also this weekend, celebrate Arts Alive on the streets of Langley.  From 11-3 on Saturday, over 50 artists will be demonstrating their talents.  Click here for details
http://www.visitlangley.com/arts_alive/

DJANGOFEST 2014 is just around the corner.  Langley will be filled with music on street corners, restaurants, and actual concerts and workshops throughout town...visit the WICA website for all the details. www.wicaonline.com   We will be hosting the Saturday night jam session...after the show we'll plan on staying open until at least 1:30 and serving a limited menu from 10 pm until at least midnight.
Be sure to call us for reservations...this is one of Langley's busiest weekends.

Slow Food Whidbey Island is presenting TASTE OF WHIDBEY on September 28th at Greenbank Farms from 1-4.  Lots of bites and sips from local restaurants, wineries, bakeries, coffee roasters, all featuring local product.  These tickets sell out fast, so be sure to order yours today at www.brownpapertickets.com or contact taste@whidbey for an auto response of ticket seller locations on the island.  Because Georgie at Willowood Farms told us she has a plethora of "toddler head sized beets" we will be preparing beets 3 ways.  Hope to see you there!
Here's a little video from last year's event...look for the cute kid in the yellow penguin sweater...that's our youngest.  http://whidbeytv.com/a-bite-of-home

We now have tote bags and kids t-shirts on sale...aren't they cute?!?

WE WILL BE CLOSED OCTOBER 6th and 7th for a deep clean and a deep breath.

SUMMER NEWS

Wow...summer is right around the corner!  The patio is open and we are loving this stretch of sunny weather.  The 2nd Street project is finally nearing completion and it's looking wonderful out there.  The Langley Main Street Association just last week organized an amazing volunteer effort to get the beds planted and it looks awesome!  I feel it in my bones, this summer is going to be off the charts!  Please remember, we can't guarantee reservations on the patio...the best way to explain it is that we can guarantee you a reservation at a certain time, but not necessarily in a certain place.  We do our very best to make everyone happy and it is a big juggling act!

CHOOCHOKAM Arts Festival.  This marks the 39th year of this wonderful festival of the arts, July 12th and 13th.  For more details on Choochokam and other Langley happenings visit http://www.visitlangley.com/

On Monday, July 28th, we'll be having our 5th annual GEORGETOWN BREWING BEER DINNER..beer maker Manny Chao comes out to the island and we pair up at least 5 courses with his great beer... $65/person.  This we'll seat between 5:30-8, call or email for reservations.  360 221 4060.

We will soon be offering tote bags and kids tshirts with our newly crafted logo created by Kalakala Co Mercantile based right here in Langley http://kalakala.co/  We love the design!

News

Even though it's FREEZING out there today and the Groundhog saw his shadow, there are little signs that spring is on it's way.  The first few sightings of the grey whales are definite indicators, as are the little buds arriving on the cherry blossom trees.  And with that come a lot of great things to tell you about in Langley.

First off, a few changes on our menu.  Last week we added a grilled octopus dish that we arecontinually selling out of, so come early if you're looking for that.  Back on the menu is our crispy pork belly with a dried fruit mostarda.  And a pickled black cod dish with house made white wine vinegar, oregon wasabi cream and sunchoke chips created by sous chef Red.  We've also brought back the farmer's plate which we now serve with house cured coppa and bresaola, morbier cheese, landjaeger, normandy butter and grapes.

Next weekend is a big one in Langley...Valentines and President's Day Weekend.  We have just a few spots left for our cozy and romantic Valentines evening...please call ASAP so you can ensure your spot.  Trio Nouveau will be playing love songs and we'll be serving up some extra special specials!

a sleuth stopping in for a clue last year

Langley's 30th annual Mystery Weekend is coming right up on February 22nd and 23rd.  This year's mystery has something to do with a bird sanctuary and an evil land developer...or something crazy like that.  This is an "interactive and improvisational" 2 day murder mystery and it is always a ton of fun. This is a great weekend getaway for groups of friends, families with kids of all ages, couples and solo mystery solvers.  We see all types of people walking through our doors to collect their clues.  We get the serious sleuths and groups just looking for a good time.  Make your plans now!  More details at www.visitlangley.com

Welcome the Whales!  Langley is truly becoming a whale watching epicenter.  The Puget Sound area is on the path of the grey whale migration from the Baja peninsula to the Bering Sea.  It is not an exaggeration to say that often the whales are too close into the shore for us to see them from our windows at Prima, as the buildings across the street block our view.  They come right up to our seawall to feed on the ghost shrimp (read about it at http://www.whidbeycamanoislands.com/thingstodo/outdoor_adventure/graywhales/)
I'm very excited to announce that the Orca Network is bringing a Whale Center to our little town, opening March 1.  Additionally, the Mystic Sea whale watching vessel will be back in town from March 8-May 18 for whale watching trips leaving right out of our marina.  Visit their website to http://www.whidbeycamanoislands.com/thingstodo/outdoor_adventure/graywhales/
And our world famous "Welcome the Whales" parade is April 19th!
Make sure you visit Langley in the next few months to see the whales...if you hear the whale bell ringing, head straight to the waterfront for front row seats (or if you see a whale, run up to the park next to the Doghouse and ring the bell to alert the town).

Our little town is undergoing an amazing transformation right now.  2nd Street has a major facelift occurring but the main thing you need to know is that all businesses are open and accessible.  There is plenty of parking, you just need to know where to go...the Star Store lot is always going to be accessible, going through the alley is a good trick to get you in.  Also there is plenty of parking along 1st as well as on Anthes.  Please visit the design Langley website for more details at designlangley.org
